counseling students |
Short-term, structured, individual counseling is available to students at the request of the student, teacher, administrator, or parent. This type of individual counseling is usually requested when the student is having difficulty with academic, personal, social, or other normal developmental issues. I meet with students for a variety of issues including grief and loss, divorce, academics, behavior, anger, feeling sad, self-esteem, making friends, etc.
I provide individual counseling for all students on an as needed basis. Usually this type of counseling is brief and typically lasts 1-2 meetings to address a specific issue. In some cases, a student may need to meet with me for a longer period of time because they are having difficulty working through a situation. In that case, I would meet with this student for more structured, scheduled individual counseling.

Structured Individual Counseling Details
Individual counseling sessions are intended to be short-term, solution-focused and brief. If more counseling is needed, I will discuss this with the child’s parent/guardian and recommend resources for additional outside counseling.
As a school counselor, I cannot provide long-term, intensive therapy for students. However, I am able to provide information about appropriate community resources.
Permission from the child’s parent/guardian is obtained for more structured individual counseling.
*Confidentiality is honored in counseling sessions. If there is a serious issue or if the student is harming others, him/herself, or is being abused, I will break confidentiality and make the parent/guardian aware of the situation and/or contact a third party.*
